A Local Collaboration
In partnership with Alpha Graphics of Oceanside, Try J Advertising was given the amazing opportunity to update the logo for the entire Oceanside Unified School District. This turned out to be an amazing opportunity to connect with local teachers, administrators, and parents in a committee-style design process that ensured everyone had a voice in the new direction for the district’s logo.
As the graphic designer for Try J Advertising I was tasked with the challenge of creating a logo that captured the diversity, welcoming spirit, and local flavor that the residents of Oceanside are so proud of in their community. We chose to move away from the lighthouse which felt dated and less relevant to the school district and instead opted for a more abstract approach.
After a series of committee meetings and revisions, we were able to reach a consensus on the circular mark you see here. The organic shapes offer a unique experience for each viewer while maintaining a coastal and welcoming style. The interlocking shapes and movement within the mark capture the energy and progressive spirit of the community it proudly represents. I think the quality of the final mark speaks to the collaborative enthusiasm that the Oceanside Unified School District is known for. This was a really special project for me and I hope to continue to find opportunities to use my design work to support organizations doing so much good locally.
